How to Update Your Pet's Microchip
Keeping your pet's microchip information up-to-date and accurate is the best way to ensure they will be safely returned to your home if they are ever lost. Follow these simple steps to update the information linked to your pet's microchip:
1) Locate your pet's microchip number. If you do not know your pet's microchip number you can take them to your veterinarian or a Petco store to get it scanned for free.
2) Contact the microchip company to update your information. There are several different microchip companies and each requires different information to update the information linked to your pet's chip. 3) Contact Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control to update information locally. It's important that if your pet's microchip is on record with FWACC that you let us know of any changes as well. Updates made directly with the microchip company are not shared with Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control. This is a vital step to ensure we will be able to contact you if your pet is lost! If you are rehoming a pet, be sure to update the pet's linked microchip information to the new owners BEFORE your pet goes to his/her new home. Both the person rehoming the pet and the new owner will need to call 427-1244 option 1 to transfer ownership and provide updated information to be linked to the microchip.
